The Gift of Salvation

There are those that believe salvation is something only theologians can comprehend. God's plan of salvation is simple enough for everyone to understand. Salvation is the free gift of eternal life God prepared for you through Jesus Christ (John 3:16). It is given to whoever will:

ü  Hear the word,

ü  Believe the word,

ü  Confess their sins,

ü  Repent of their sins and

ü  accept Jesus Christ as Lord.

What is sin? Sin is simply being without God. When we don’t obey the moral law of God we are estranged from Him. This separation may be by active rebellion or passive indifference, either way we are “in sin.” What is the result of sin? In Romans 6:23 we read " For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Every one of us has missed God's mark and fallen short of being perfect (Romans 3:23). Salvation is not about being perfect in this life; it is about how you live today in the flesh and preserving spiritual life after physical death.

We cannot earn salvation by our good works, for the Bible says that we are saved by grace alone; the Grace of God. (Romans 9:32, Galatians 2:16)

How then do we accept this gift? We must come to Jesus Christ alone and become born again (John 3:3). If you have never asked the Lord, Jesus, to come into your life, why not open the door now?

The precise words you use to commit yourself to God are not important. He knows the intentions of your heart. If you are unsure of what to pray, this might help you put it into words:

"Jesus, I want to know you. I want you to come into my life. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sin so that I could be fully accepted by you. Only you can give me the power to change and become the person you created me to be. Thank you for forgiving me and giving me eternal life with God. I give my life to you. Please do with it as you wish. Amen."

If you just made this commitment the Holy Spirit has now taken residence in your heart! It is immediate and everlasting. Not only that, but Christ has forgiven you of all your sin. The Bible tells us, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).

Having accepted Christ as your Savior and being cleansed of sin does not give free reign to continue to live as we have in the past, Salvation means you have been “born again”, and this time sinless. There are some rules, generally known as commandments or laws.

The greatest of these is “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” Matthew 22:37 and the “And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” Matthew 22:39-40.

You need to take some practical steps to grow strong spiritually.

ü  Purchase and read the Bible.
ü  Pray, and go to church. If you do not belong to a church, do not wait to be invited. You need to take the initiative and make plans to attend church regularly.
ü  Fellowship with fellow Christians will enable you spiritually and build a sound foundation of faith.

From the hands it came down

         Am

 Between heaven and hell

   Dm

 A teardrop fell

        E

 In the deep crimson dew

     Am

 The tree of life grew

|        C

|And the blood gave life

|       G

|To the branches of the tree

|        F

|And the blood was the price

|     G

|That set the captives free

|        C

|And the numbers that came

|            G

|Through the fire and the flood

|F

|Clung to the tree

|           Am

|And were redeemed by the blood

From the tree streamed a light

 That started the fight

'Round the tree grew a vine

On whose fruit I could dine

 My old friend Lucifer came

Fought to keep me in chains

But I saw through the tricks

 Of six-sixty-six

 {chorus}

From his hands it came down

From his side it came down

From his feet it came down

 And ran to the ground

 And a small inner voice

Said "You do have a choice."

 The vine engrafted me

And I clung to the tree

 {chorus}

          Am

From his hands it came down

          Dm

From his side it came down

          E

From his feet it came down

     Am

 And ran to the ground
